Update: An official statement has been issued from Spielberg’s camp regarding this news. “Neither Steven Spielberg, DreamWorks Studios or DreamWorks Television will be optioning Mark Owen’s book ‘No Easy Day.'” Doesn’t mean this is the last we’ll be hearing of it, however.
September 11th is going to play host to more than just memorials this year – it will also see the release of a book titled “No Easy Day: The Firsthand Account of the Mission That Killed Osama bin Laden” that is currently in the process of being optioned by none other than Steven Spielberg.
It’s doubtful that he would direct considering his nigh-on overflowing plate of projects, but he could most definitely produce the soon-to-be-published story of “one of the first men through the door on the third floor” in bin Laden’s compound who was, according to the publisher, “there when bin Laden died.”
Author Mark Owen has, according to sources, already met with both HBO and Spielberg/Dreamworks about turning his book into a movie, potentially giving us a new “Snow White situation” (there were three flicks going before Disney delayed ORDER OF THE SEVEN) between NO EASY DAY, Katherine Bigelow’s ZERO DARK THIRTY, and John Stockwell’s CODE NAME: GERONIMO. Bigelo’s film was delayed to December effectively because of the Presidential election, but GERONIMO was recently picked up by The Weinstein Company and word is that it may yet see a pre-election release date in late September or October.
