I guess my “uhm… what?” quota for news today hadn’t been adequately filled by James Franco playing an “evil meth magnate named Gator,” because here we are talking about Reese Witherspoon and Summit Entertainment (the TWILIGHT shit) working together to adapt PENNYROYAL’S PRINCESS BOOT CAMP. The book, by Cartoon Network staff writer M.A. Larson (MY LITTLE PONY: FRIENDSHIP IS MAGIC) technically hasn’t been published yet, but when has that ever stopped anybody? It hasn’t, is the answer to that question.
Witherspoon will produce and take a supporting role in Larson self-adapted tale of “an orphaned girl travels to the Pennyroyal Boot Camp where she and her friends train to become warrior princesses in order to defeat an ever-growing threat of wicked witches.”
What always interests me with these sorts of situations is to know how much the adults being dragged by their kids to such movies will be able to get into the material, a creative decision that rests wholly in the hands of the people making the thing. The script has yet to be written, so it’ll be a fair while yet before we know whether PENNYROLYAL’S PRINCESS BOOT CAMP (which will probably receive many a title change) will have enough interesting elements for everyone to enjoy.
