It’s best to lay aside all expectations when it comes to the work of Darren Aronofsky, and NOAH is very quickly asserting once again (after doing so several times over before) that it is no different in that respect from anything of his that came before. Case in point being the casting of Cain and Abel, characters who had died long before Noah ever had his argument with God about just how big a cubit really is. I think so, anyway – my own Bible knowledge is a bit rusty. Abel was definitely dead, I can tell you that. As in, really dead. Head-smashed-in dead. The above art from Aronofsky’s Noah concept comic proves it.
The actors cast by Aronofosky are two Icelandic gentleman named Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson (Reykjavik-Rotterdam) and Arnar Dan, who will no doubt become more well known in the US than their current state of “not at all” after NOAH arrives. But again, what’s important is the characters they’re playing, as it means we can now reasonably expect NOAH to cover a greater expanse of time than was necessarily anticipated previously. That being said, their parts will definitely be on the small side as it has been revealed that they “won’t have many lines but must instead express the brothers’ emotions.”
Something which I for one am all for. Aronofsky’s next flashy flood of brilliance bears the current release date of March 28th, 2014.
