Despite reading some opinions to the contrary, I thought Anne Hathaway did a phenomenal job as Selina Kyle in THE DARK KNIGHT RISES. While she may not have been the traditional Catwoman many expected, her portrayal was definitely fitting within this Dark Knight universe. In fact, I would completely be on board with Ms. Hathaway getting her own spin-off film.
When the question was posed to Anne Hathaway, her response was “I think it would be lovely to see more of her but only if it’s with the right people. She lives in this Gotham City and so it would have to be established by the people who have made this Gotham City. For me, at least.”
Christopher Nolan himself has said that this version of Catwoman should get a solo adventure. But, seeing as Nolan is not planning on making any additional films in the series, it makes you wonder if he would allow others to work within the same mythology he created.
It would also mean that the ending of THE DARK KNIGHT RISES would have to be interpreted in a very specific way. I obviously will not share any details in this article, but a Catwoman spin-off, if a direct sequel to THE DARK KNIGHT RISES, would require the ending for that film be given a definite answer where I feel Nolan left it much more open to interpretation.
