Welcome to today’s installment of “Who the F*#k Does Benedict Cumberbatch Play in STAR TREK 2.” Here’s your host, Karl Urban!

Karl Urban is making the rounds for his upcoming film DREDD, so the guy is being asked six million questions and most of them are repeats of something he answered five minutes prior. You have to give the guy a pass if he did accidentally reveal something he should not have.

In a lengthy interview with SFX, Urban was asked about Benedict Cumberbatch. Urban’s response was “He’s awesome, he’s a great addition, and I think his Gary Mitchell is going to be exemplary.”

Oopsie!

This, however, does fly directly in the face of what screewriter/producer Roberto Orci told Ain’t It Cool a few weeks ago. Orci put Gary Mitchell on his shortlist of characters who would absolutely not be in STAR TREK 2. So, who is telling the truth?

We may not even know when the first trailers for the sequel are released. I am sure JJ Abrams and Paramount will try to keep the secret hidden for as long as possible, but who knows? With Comic Con happening this week, they may be making a big announcement regarding the film and the villain may be just the item to knock the buzz into the stratosphere.

JoBlo.com will have a crew onsite at Comic Con this year, so you can be sure if they hear about something Khan/Mitchell related, we will let you know right away!

STAR TREK 2 is slated for release May 17th, 2013.
