Have a look at Chloe Moretz on the set of Kimberly Pierce’s Carrie remake

It’s been quite a while since I’ve seen the original CARRIE, but I always remember it being pretty freaky in terms of the performances and visuals.  Director Brian DePalma was right at home with the Stephen King adaptation, which made stars out of Sissy Spacek and John Travolta.  Now, a remake of the film is on the way, courtesy of director Kimberly Pierce (BOYS DON’T CRY) and starring Hit-Girl herself, Chloe Grace Moretz.

Have a look at the new Carrie:

Although this is just a set pic, it’s enough to give you an overall feel for how Moretz will look in comparison to the original Carrie White, played by Spacek.  A closer look will see that she is wearing a crucifix, which goes well with her Sunday best dress.  It’s unlikely she’ll rock those glasses in the film, as they’re a little too chic for a repressed telekinetic psycho.

The rest of the cast includes Julianne Moore as Carrie’s crazy mom, Judy Greer as Miss Desjardin, Alex Russell as Billy Nolan (Travolta’s part), and Gabriella Wilde as Sue Snell (originally played by Amy Irving).

It’s been more than 30 years since the original, so I can’t really cry foul on a remake of this, especially since it’s based on a novel.  DePalma’s version was a solid flick, but I’m interested to see what a new version will bring, especially with Moretz in the lead, who is growing into a fine actress with an already impressive body of work.

Here’s the synopsis for CARRIE:

The quiet suburb of Chamberlain, Maine is home to the deeply religious and conservative Margaret White (Moore) and her daughter Carrie (Moretz). Carrie is a sweet but meek outcast whom Margaret has sheltered from society. Gym teacher Miss Desjardin (Greer) tries in vain to protect Carrie from local mean girls led by the popular and haughty Chris Hargenson (Portia Doubleday), but only Chris’ best friend, Sue Snell (Gabriella Wilde), regrets their actions. In an effort to make amends, Sue asks her boyfriend, high school heartthrob Tommy Ross (Ansel Elgort), to take Carrie to prom. Pushed to the limit by her peers at the dance, Carrie unleashes telekinetic havoc.

CARRIE is set to go psycho-psychic on March 15, 2013
