A little over a month ago we reported he was in negotiations for the role, and now the news is official: Ryan Reynolds will take the lead in Juan Carlos Fresnadillo’s remake of HIGHLANDER. The role in question is that of “Conner MacLeod, a Highlander who discovers he is one of a dwindling group of immortals who wander the earth and kill each other in combat for the final ‘Prize’ – immortality.”

I’m not sure what else there is to say.  Reynolds can certainly suffice in terms of physical skill (dude has always handled his fight scenes with aplomb), gravitas (dude can play intense with the best of them), and youth (relatively; enough to allow for plenty of sequels, anyway).  But I’ve never found Reynolds to have the kind of presence that singles him out from those around him on screen, that really grips me as a viewer and keeps me watching excitedly.

But he’s solid enough at what he does, and the question is: will that be enough for you? And if it isn’t, who would you have preferred to don the kilt of immortality?
