One of the most prolific authors of the last Century, Ray Bradbury, has passed away at the age of 91. Book Publisher Harper Collins released in a statement that Bradbury “died peacefully, last night, in Los Angeles, after a lengthy illness.”
Bradbury was the author of numerous novels and short stories, Fahrenheit 451 standing as hismost influential work and regarded as a classic today. Many of his stories, including The Illustrated Man, The Martian Chronicles, and my personal favorite, A Sound of Thunder, have been adapted to either TV or film.
In addition, Bradbury was the host of the anthology series The Ray Bradbury Theater, which ran from 1985-1992. Bradbury wrote the screenplay for John Huston’s adaptation of MOBY DICK and was nominated for on Oscar. He won an Emmy for his teleplay for The Halloween Tree.”
With hundreds of short stories, about fifty books, and an array of poems, scripts, etc., Bradbury left an indelible legacy of work in his wake.
“In my later years I have looked in the mirror each day and found a happy person staring back.” he wrote in 2005. “Occasionally I wonder why I can be so happy. The answer is that every day of my life I’ve worked only for myself and for the joy that comes from writing and creating. The image in my mirror is not optimistic, but the result of optimal behavior.”
