Guy Ritchie to put his stylized spin on a new version of Treasure Island

Treasure Island book coverHot on the heels of the humongous success that is the SHERLOCK HOLMES franchise (never hoped I’d be typing that), director Guy Ritchie has signed on to direct another project shepherded into existence by producer Lionel Wigram – TREASURE ISLAND.  Interest in the project was alluded to back in 2010, but no movement had been seen since until Ritchie confirmed his involvement this past weekend.

The script will be written by one Alex Harakis, while the adaptation itself is already being called “a stylized version of the classic novel, much [like] Sherlock Holmes.”  I’m not sure how you stylize pirates, but I guess we’ll be finding out soon enough.  But I bet I’ll like it.

The most important question currently unanswered is of course casting related – what sort of unorthodox pairing in the vein of Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law can we expect Ritchie to put together?
