Trailer for horror flick The Possession with Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Kyra Sedgwick is kinda freaky

The trailer for THE POSSESSION, another tic on the checkbox of demonic possession horror films, has found its way online.  The Ghosthouse Productions film stars Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Kyra Sedgwick, and Natasha Calis and is directed by Ole Bornedal (NIGHTWATCH) and produced by Sam Raimi (THE EVIL DEAD).  Lately the genre has been clogged up with “found footage” style flicks, so it’s kind of refreshing to see one filmed with dollys and steadi-cams.

You know it’s coming…Get Possessed!:

I’m not really into this genre (possession horror), but this looks much more intriguing than what I’ve seen of late.  Yeah, it’s still pretty run of the mill in terms of story (girl gets possessed, parents are concerned, parents get religious help, exorcism ensues, everyone’s happy…maybe), but it looks like a well-shot flick with some solid actors.

Here’s the synopsis (which is pretty much what I put above):

A young girl buys an antique box at a yard sale, unaware that inside the collectible lives a malicious ancient spirit. The girl’s father teams with his ex-wife to find a way to end the curse upon their child.

THE POSSESSION starts taking over pre-adolescent girls on August 31, 2012.
