New one sheets for G.I. Joe: Retaliation are decidedly “meh”

Just a short while ago there was a barrage of character posters for G.I. JOE: RETALIATION all over the net (including here) and for the most part they were pretty cool.  I’m a fan of the character posters as I think they allow fans to be able to choose their favorites and are a hell of a lot cooler than a product tie in poster (like Batman drinking milk).

So, now we have some official one-sheets, which are all kinds of uninspired to me.  Plus, the actual Photoshop work is a little messy in my opinion.  They look like the beginning layers of something that could be cool, but then they just stopped.  Sometimes less is more, but in this case, less is less.

Decide for yourself:

I consider movie posters an art form and when done right they can be every bit the collector’s item and well worth showcasing, but oftentimes they’re pretty generic and follow a specific trend at the time of their release.

I’m still stoked for the movie, however, as I think G.I. JOE RETALIATION shows great promise, especially after the mech-suit bullshit that was the first one.

The Joes return with one-liners, explosions, and a mirror-masked Cobra Commander (finally!) on June 29, 2012.
