NBC, the network that recently made the genius decision to put “Community” on hiatus while leaving crap like “Whitney” on the air, is all set to move forward on an hour-long dramatic remake of the popular 60s television sitcom “The Munsters”.
Leading the way alongside Bryan Fuller (“Pushing Daisies”) will be director and executive producer Bryan Singer (JACK THE GIANT KILLER, X-MEN) who has been brought on to helm the pilot episode. According to Deadline, the new series is being described as “an imaginative reinvention of The Munsters as a visually spectacular one-hour drama.” Fuller, who had found success using a similar template with his series “Pushing Daisies” (pilot episode directed by Barry Sonnenfeld who also won an Emmy for his work), wrote the series pilot.
Dollars to donuts: Eddie Munster’s burgeoning werewolfism will be treated as a heavy-handed metaphor for coming out of the closet.
This will mark Singer’s third time directing for television. His first was for the Fox medical drama “House M.D.” and later ABC’s “Football Wives”. He’s currently putting the finishing touches on JACK THE GIANT KILLER, starring Ewan McGregor and Nicholas Hoult.
