Superman’s Kryptonian mom gets a last minute change for Man of Steel

It’s a bit late in the game to start swapping roles for MAN OF STEEL, as the film has already been filming for a little while now. But don’t worry, they’re not subbing in Jon Hamm at the last second, rather Julie Ormand, who was set to play Superman’s Kryptonian mother, has left the project and been replaced by Ayelet Zurer.

You may not know her name, but you’ve probably seen in her ANGELS AND DEMONS, MUNICH and VANTAGE POINT. As Superman’s mother, she’ll be playing opposite Russell Crowe as Jor-El. As the Kryptonian aspects of Superman’s origin probably aren’t going to take too terribly long, we probably won’t see much of her, and most of her scenes will be filmed on a stage.

As more photos and set videos continue to pour forth from the set, speculation remains high on how MAN OF STEEL will turn out as a Nolan/Snyder venture. Fans felt a bit slighted after SUPERMAN RETURNS, and are hesitant to trust yet another attempt at a reboot, but at the very least, buzz has been positive about the costume, which is more than can be said for the last film. The cast is impressive as well, and we’ll have to see how it all plays out in a year.
