Another name is looking to be added to filmmaker Neil Blomkamp’s mysterious and much-anticipated sci-fi film ELYSIUM. Variety is reporting that Y TU MAMA TAMBIEN actor Diego Luna is now in talks to join the film alongside star Matt Damon (CONTAGION, WE BOUGHT A ZOO).
In fact, according to Variety, Luna would be playing Damon’s character’s best friend ‘Julio’. And though there is no further elaboration on the character, Variety does also very matter-of-factly state that ELYSIUM’s story “revolves around aliens and humans doing battle on earth.” Umm, really? Because while we don’t have a great deal of solid info about the film, we do know from previous reports that a) it may not necessarily even be about aliens, and b) it’s set on another planet. So either Variety just spilled the beans on something or they don’t know what the hell they’re saying.
Luna will next be seen in the hopefully hilarious CASA DE MI PADRE opposite Will Ferrell. ELYSIUM – written and directed by Blomkamp and starring Damon, Jodie Foster, Sharlto Copley, Alice Braga, William Fichtner, and Wagner Moura – starts filming next month and is scheduled for release on March 1, 2013.
