LOST IN THE GARDEN OF THE WORLD, which aired only on New Zealand TV, is a 1975 documentary created by a group of Kiwi film lovers who wanted to experience the Cannes Film Festival firsthand. In doing so, they captured rare and fantastic interviews of some of today’s cinematic legends back when they were just young upstarts – names like Steven Spielberg, Martin Scorsese, Dustin Hoffman, and Werner Herzog.
The 10+ minute segment featuring a young Steven Spielberg talking about a little film called JAWS is embedded below (his interview begins at the -6:13 mark). At the end of the clip (or if you hover over the vid and hit the menu button), you can select any one of the other segments to view. It’s really fascinating stuff, particularly if you have a love for film history.
