Denis Leary goes from New York fireman to Spider-Man cop

I’m still uncertain just how I feel about a reboot of the SPIDER-MAN movie series, but I can’t deny that the cast is oddly intriguing.

So far we’ve got Andrew Garfield (Peter Parker), Emma Stone (Gwen Stacy), Rhys Ifans (The Lizard, presumably), Martin Sheen (Uncle Ben) and Sally Field (Aunt May).

Now we’ve got “Rescue Me” chain-smoking firefighter Denis Leary playing pipe-puffing police captain George Stacy, who’s not only the dad of Peter’s high school love interest but also often encounters Parker’s costumed crimefighting identity.

Marc Webb ((500) DAYS OF SUMMER) is directing Sony’s 3D relaunch, with shooting to begin next month for a planned July 3, 2012 release.
