When it comes to soccer, perhaps not so much in the US, but the rest of the world sort of stops when it comes on. The amount of people going to the movies declines, and distributors are scrambling to find dates before and after the tournament.
Stone is also looking to shorten the running time of the film, so this gives him enough time to do so.
