After a flurry of films in 2007 and 2008, the “produced by Judd Apatow” movies have slowed a bit. GET HIM TO THE GREEK is the only Apatow-produced film to hit theaters this year and now we have word on the only Apatow-produced film to go into production this year. Universal Pictures, Apatow and Kristen Wiig have signed Paul Feig to direct an untitled comedy that is expected to begin shooting this spring.
The film, formerly titled BRIDESMAIDS, will be Wiig’s first starring role in a film after some amazing supporting roles in KNOCKED UP, WALK HARD and ADVENTURELAND. The film will star Wiig opposite another female actress as they battle to plan their best friend’s wedding party. The film would reunite Feig and Apatow who worked together on the cult classic “Freaks and Geeks” (Wiig and Feig worked together previously on UNACCOMPANIED MINORS). Feig has since been producing and directing “The Office” for NBC.
Wiig, who co-wrote and will produce the film, has a number of films on the way including a voice role in HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON, the Simon Pegg/Nick Frost comedy PAUL, DATE NIGHT and the SNL spinoff MACGRUBER.
