Miramax finally shuttered for good by Disney

JoBloJoBlo

It’s a rather sad day for the industry, as Miramax is closing its doors for good. Eighty people are out of jobs, six movies are being shelved, and all we can really do now is look back at what the company brought us, a whole host of movies that you might not even know they were behind:

THE PIANO, PULP FICTION, SEX, LIES AND VIDEOTAPE, CLERKS, SHAKESPEARE IN LOVE, THE ENGLISH PATIENT, THE CRYING GAME, THE TALENTED MR. RIPLEY, CHICAGO, KILL BILL, SWINGERS, GOOD WILL HUNTING.

I could keep going, but you get the idea. Says Harvey Weinstein of the passing:

“I’m feeling very nostalgic right now. I know the movies made on my and my brother Bob’s watch will live on as well as the fantastic films made under the direction of Daniel Battsek. Miramax has some brilliant people working within the organization and I know they will go on to do great things in the industry.”

For a fuller accounting of what exactly led to Miramax’s downfall, head over to The Wrap. It’s really too bad, but these things happen, as it’s a cannibalistic industry I suppose.
