While I was anticipating Nic Cage throwing some loco at Seth Rogen and his sidekick in the GREEN HORNET movie, I certainly find no fault with his replacement, INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS’ placidly devilish Christoph Waltz.
So what prompted Cage to change direction (right into anger, with the thriller ANGRY RABBIT JUMPS and the 3D actioner DRIVE ANGRY)? Apparently he didn’t think there was enough meat (or scenery) to chew in the role, claiming he “wasn’t interested in just being just a straight-up bad guy who was killing people willy-nilly.”
“THE GREEN HORNET was something that I wanted to do, I think [director] Michel Gondry is very talented and I had hoped it would work but I think Seth Rogen and Michel had a different take on the character,” Cage stated while promoting the ugly-titled and reportedly quite insane BAD LIEUTENANT – PORT OF CALL:NEW ORLEANS. “I had to have some humanity and to try to give it something where you could understand why the character was the way he was but I don’t think there was enough time to develop it.“
