Before that 4th TERMINATOR film I had never heard of Sam Worthington, and as it turns out I thought he was the highlight of an otherwise forgettable movie. Since then he’s just everywhere, even around James Cameron.
One of the films he’s been rumored for is McG’s 20,000 LEAGUES origin story for Disney, which the director recently stated he’d like Sam for Captain Nemo should his first choice of Will Smith pass. And he most probably will. So where does that leave Sam?
Talking to the folks at Moviehole, the Aussie actor was downplaying McG’s intentions, claiming he barely chatted a bit about it with the director but nothing more. “We haven’t discussed it seriously” said Sam. “I wrote him an email and he wrote back saying ‘I don’t think you have these qualities, blah, blah..’ and I wrote back saying ‘it’s your job as a director to bring it out of me.’” So nothing serious, but he wants it. Half the battle.
I like Sam, but as Nemo I don’t quite see it. So here’s a thought: Chiwetel Ejiofor. That guy is long overdue a high profile starring role.
