The WGA writer’s strike claimed its second major casualty over the weekend after United Artists pulled the plug on Oliver Stone’s PINKVILLE. The move follows Sony’s decision to halt production on ANGELS AND DEMONS and move the DA VINCI sequel to 2009. Filming on PINKVILLE – which was to have starred Bruce Willis, Channing Tatum and Woody Harrelson – was set to begin filming in just a few short weeks. As you might expect, the project was dropped because UA officials felt the script wasn’t up to par and neither writer Mikko Alanne nor director Oliver Stone were able to make any edits to it. While ANGELS AND DEMONS was quickly rescheduled for post-strike, it doesn’t look to be that easy for PINKVILLE. If the project ever gets back underway it could be with an entirely different cast as Willis has already found a replacement project (more on that later this morning). PINKVILLE was the story of the infamous My Lai Massacre during the Vietnam War. While ANGELS AND DEMONS and PINKVILLE are the first to suffer the consequences, they certainly won’t be the last.
