Samurai Jack flick

I dug the hell out of animator Genndy Tartakovsky’s unique and insane ‘toon SAMURAI JACK, and although the series has run its course on the Cartoon Network, we could still see the future-flung swordsman battle Aku (RIP Mako) in theaters.

A SAMURAI JACK feature is in the works at new indie ‘toon studio Frederator Films, which is dedicated to making new traditionally animated movies for under $20 million. Refreshing news for anyone already sick of the CG onslaught.

Tartakovsky will, naturally, write and direct the new adventure of his pop-culture samurai tale that has referenced everything from Kurosawa to ‘Lone Wolf and Cub’ to 300 to STAR WARS (Tartakovsky already far better captured the tone of the original STAR WARS series with his CLONE WARS than Lucas could with his own shite prequels).

Frederator (which includes veterans from Hanna-Barbera, Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon) is also making a claymation film based on THE NEVERHOOD, a videogame created by Doug TenNapel, the graphic novelist behind the genius work ‘Creature Tech’ and ‘Earthboy Jacobus’, plus the videogame ‘Earthworm Jim’.
