Earth Stood Still guy?

JoBloJoBlo

UPDATE: As pointed out below, IESB actually caught wind of this a while back, so it now seems to be verified. Hey, it was news to me!

Plenty of sci-fi remakes are still whirling their way across the nebula, and the update of THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL will land its flying saucer in Vancouver. The pilot: Scott Derrickson.

According to HNR, Derrickson will direct Fox’s remake of the classic cautionary tale, which the studio slotted for a May 2008 release. Derrickson previously helmed the minor hit THE EXORCISM OF EMILY ROSE and has been attached to a big-budget adaptation of Milton’s PARADISE LOST, but production is apparently gearing up on EARTH first.

The 1951 science fiction essential involves an alien envoy who, along with his deadly robot, warns Earth’s denizens to cease its violent ways or face some considerable wrath. (It is also the source of Bruce Campbell’s flubbed ARMY OF DARKNESS failsafe enchantment “Klaatu Barada Nikto”, a phrase that appears in numerous other films.)
