Tremendous news for the film purists out there. JURASSIC WORLD director Colin Trevorrow has announced via his Twitter page that the dino-sequel will be shooting on both 35mm and 65mm film, which of course is not at all the norm nowadays. The 65mm bit is especially exciting; that means some of the film’s action/visual effects-heavy sequences will be especially glorious to behold on an IMAX screen. (Recent films shot entirely or partially on 65mm include THE MASTER, INCEPTION, THE DARK KNIGHT RISES.)

With this announcement, Trevorrow also revealed his cinematographer: John Schwartzman. Nominated for an Oscar in 2004 (for SEABISCUIT), Schwartzman is well known for being an action DP, having shot THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN, THE ROCK and ARMAGEDDON. Most recently he worked on Universal’s DRACULA UNTOLD.

Additionally, JURASSIC WORLD has evidently locked down three major filming locations. The production will film in Oahu, Hawaii for four weeks in April and then an additional two weeks in Kauai, Hawaii. The production then heads to New Orleans, Louisiana for 11 weeks beginning in June. (It will be shooting alongside TERMINATOR 5 there.)

JURASSIC WORLD opens in June 2015.
