Things were looking pretty grim for the survivors on “The Walking Dead” when we last left them. For the time being, it seems as though Rick and Carl Grimes are going to be on their own, searching for a safe haven after the prison’s destruction. So is there any light at the end of the tunnel? According to creator and executive producer Robert Kirkman, it’s quite possible.

In an interview with TV Guide, Kirkman had this to say:

“We started the season pretty hopeful and pretty optimistic,” he says. “We’ll open our last half of the season pretty bleak and we’ll move them to something a little more hopeful by the end.”

For fans of the comics, this could be a hint that Rick and Carl are about to find Alexandria, a safe zone. However, nothing remains bright for long during a zombie apocalypse…

“The Walking Dead” returns on February 9th.
