While promoting his latest effort NO ONE LIVES in Tokyo, director Ryuhei Kitamura dropped the revelation that he is planning a sequel to his internationally beloved 2000 action-horror hybrid VERSUS and has plans of coaxing original star Tak Sakaguchi out of retirement to star.

While on stage for the Tokyo premiere of NO ONE LIVES Kitamura outlined his plans to return to Asia and begin work on the sequel, adding…

The lead actor [Tak Sakaguchi] is retired, but I’ll get him to make a comeback. He’ll do it if I do it.”

Make it happen, Kitamura! This is exciting news for fans of VERSUS (and I count myself among that legion), and having the original film’s star and director back for a sequel is the only way we’d want to see it done.

We’ll keep you posted on news on VERSUS 2 as we hear it.
