UPDATE: Word has finally been released that STASH HOUSE director Eduardo Rodriguez will likely be directing FRIGHT NIGHT 2, which will be a stand-alone story released direct-to-DVD. As such, none of the original film’s stars are expected to reprise their roles. Check out our previous report of the story below for more details.

Okay, so FRIGHT NIGHT 2 kind of already happened. I’m talking a FRIGHT NIGHT remake sequel (“remakequel,” if you will). Or maybe even another reboot of the franchise. Either way a new FRIGHT NIGHT something could be going down.

Keep in mind, this is strictly unofficial as of now, but apparently the film is rumored to be “gearing up for production in Romania” under the hand of a smaller production company who purchased the rights to the franchise when the remake tanked. Said unnamed company may take the property and “spin it off into its own ‘brand’ a la Tales from the Crypt.” I’m guessing as an anthology or perhaps a FRIGHT NIGHT PRESENTS DEMON KNIGHT sort of thing.

The TALES FROM THE CRYPT implication isn’t really clarified, but this isn’t the first rumblings of a FRIGHT NIGHT remakequel we’ve gotten. Last year it was rumored DreamWorks wanted to turn “the franchise over to David Tennant… the followup would take place in a new city where Peter Vincent not only has to deal with vampires, but potentially other unexpected problems.” That version was also supposed to have Evil Ed return (don’t ask me how) but has probably gotten squashed since moving hands.

What do you guys think? Would you be up for some FRIGHT NIGHTS? Talk back below with your thoughts…
