I like the expedience…

On October 1st, we told you about Elijah Wood partnering with longtime pals Daniel Noah and Josh C. Waller to create The Woodshed, a production company solely devoted to cool genre flicks. Upon the announcement, The Woodshed had chopped up 4 different titles (CURSE OF THE DARKNESS, HARROW, HENLEY, IT WAS CRUEL), and now, less than three weeks after going public, the company has two more horror joints are in the bag. Dig it!

According to Variety, one of the flicks The Woodshed just picked up is TOAD ROAD, a flick we’ve written about before (peep C.Bum’s Fantasia review). Inspired by an urban legend, Toad Road is an intimate meditation on lost youth evocative of Gus Van Sant (with a racy touch of Larry Clark) and a radical deconstruction of genre cinema, a devastating and brilliant object of contemplation and dread, and a journey down unexpected paths. TOAD ROAD, written and directed by Jason Banker, will have a L.A. premiere October 23rd, thanks to The Woodshed.

Also acquired by The Woodshed is A GIRL WALKS HOME AT NIGHT, an Iranian western about vampires that will mark the feature debut of writer/director Ana Lily Amirpour. The film is described as a love story set in a fictitious Iranian ghost town reeking of death and loneliness, where a strange and jaded population is haunted by a lonesome vampire who preys upon the city’s most depraved denizens.

Sounds pretty gnarly, no? An Iranian western in black and white, and spoken in Farsi? Color me intrigued. Production on A GIRL is slated to begin in January.
