Ben Wheatley stunned us with KILL LIST earlier this year (or last year, depending on what country you’re living in), and has the violent road trip comedy SIGHTSEERS on tap for us next. (Check out the trailer HERE.) And despite his very British sense of humor and his penchant for nasty violence, the director is planning on coming to the states with an outlandish cops-and-monsters picture called FREAKSHIFT. That one is almost guaranteed to be a certified blast, but it will have to wait, as Wheatley has pounced on another project that sounds equally bizarre.

According to Screen Daily, Wheatley has turned his focus toward A FIELD IN ENGLAND, which is described as a “psychedelic” war movie set during the English Civil War in the 1600s. FIELD will tell the story of a group of deserters who, after being captured by two men, are forced to search for hidden treasure buried in a field. Soon it becomes clear that the treasure might be something other than gold, and the group descends into a chaos of fighting and paranoia, becoming victim to the terrifying energies trapped inside the field.

Shooting on the film is scheduled for September; Michael Smiley (who is aces in KILL LIST), Reece Shearsmith, Richard Glover, Ryan Pope, Peter Ferdinando and Julian Barratt are all signed to star.
