Lava Bear takes rights to Ben Wheatley’s cops vs. monsters movie Freakshift

Back in May we let you know KILL LIST director Ben Wheatley (seen right) had lined up a cops vs. monsters movie called FREAKSHIFT for Film4. Well, it looks like Lava Bear is hashing out a deal to hold exclusive distro-rights to the flick.

Co-written with Wheatley by Amy Jump – FREAKSHIFT is set in a world where monsters rise from the ground and terrorize citizens when night falls. The Freakshift is a band of government-organized misfits and lawbreakers who hunt and kill the creatures for civic duty, sport and money.

I must sadly admit, KILL LIST has eluded me since coming out last year. I need to see it. That said, FREAKSHIFT sounds like a pretty original premise, and with vampires and werewolves running amok in film the last few years, a good old monster movie is much needed in my opinion. The fact this sucker isn’t based on a prior property makes it all the more exciting.

Next comes the casting. You think Wheatley will and/or should go after bigger names than his last flick or keep it low key?

Chick just caused a Freakshift in my shorts!!!
