What an epic cast Ridley Scott is lining up for THE COUNSELOR … and for a movie that figures to be one of the most graphically violent mainstream affairs in quite a while.

Scott had already positioned Michael Fassbender, Brad Pitt, Javier Bardem and Penelope Cruz for the thriller, and now he’s slotted Cameron Diaz in as “Malkina.”

Diaz’s character is a beautiful but sinister woman who is just as shady as the numerous bad boys the story contains.

20th Century Fox will release the film, which Ridley’s production company Scott Free is producing.

Will brag a bit: I’ve read Cormac McCarthy’s script – which concerns a lawyer who involves himself in a drug theft that goes dangerously awry – and it does indeed feature some serious bloodshed. A couple of sequences feel like they’re right out of a horror movie. If you thought NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN was nasty, you just wait until you get a load of this.
