DISTRICT 9 fans rest easy, Wikus Van De Merwe is committed to cinema’s darkest realms!

Deadline is reporting that Sharlto Copley (seen right) has not only been confirmed to play the arch villain in Spike Lee’s OLDBOY remake, but is now headed to Hungary to shoot APOLLO 18 director Gonzalo Lopez-Gallego’s follow up horror joint OPEN GRAVES. Not sure how you feel, but the genre can only benefit from this dude’s naturally convincing screen presence.

In OPEN GRAVES, Copley’s character wakes up in the pit full of rotting bodies with no idea how he got there, begins to have flashbacks of himself murdering people and stars to believe he’s the killer.

I love these types of movies, with the unreliable first person narrative. Thing is, the endings usually suck…be they predictable or far-fetched. Can’t expect different from the guy who gave us APOLLO 18, but we’ll give him the benefit of the doubt for now.

As for OLDBOY, Copley will play villain Adrian Pryce, a mysterious billionaire trying to destroy the life of Joe Douchett (Brolin). Mark Protosevich adapted the script, to be shot later this fall.
