Mere weeks before the release of Tim Burton’s DARK SHADOWS, we were saddened to hear that Jonathan Frid, the actor who portrayed Barnabas Collins in the original 1966 television series, died this past Friday, April 13th at the age of 87. Our heartfelt condolences go out to Mr. Frid’s family and friends.

Although he pretty much abandoned his movie career shortly after DARK SHADOWS went off the air, with only several brief comebacks later on (most notably in Oliver Stone’s feature debut SEIZURE), Jonathan Frid will always be remembered for his memorable performance on the classic show, as well as for his notable stage career in his native Canada.

Frid’s final on-screen appearance was a cameo in Tim Burton’s upcoming reimagining of DARK SHADOWS. It’s a great shame the actor won’t be attending the movie’s premiere.

RIP Barnabas.
