After years of development without much traction, it seemed as though David Gordon Green’s proposed SUSPIRIA remake was a dead duck. However, as we well know, remakes such as this one often have a tendency to rise from the grave…
According to a press release, SUSPIRIA is alive and well and moving forward; Green is still directing from a screenplay he penned with Chris Gebert. He has new producing partners in the form of Crime Scene Pictures, whose principal partners Adam Ripp and Rob Paris are currently working on Joe Lynch’s suspense drama EVERLY, starring Kate Hudson.
Also on board is a laundry list of producers: Francesco Melzi d’Eril (Hotel Rwanda) from Memo Films and Luca Guadagnino, under his First Sun film banner, are financing. Executive producers include Rizal Risjad, Silvia Fendi and Philip Elway. Lisa Muskat will co-produce. Sales company Wild Bunch plans to sell international territories at Cannes in May while CAA represents the U.S. distribution rights.
“We love the style and energy of the original film – and David’s script brilliantly updates the world, presenting a rare opportunity to create an elegant, classic horror film,” Crime Scene partners Ripp and Paris said in a statement.
Production begins in September; casting is already underway including for the coveted role of Suzy, the American student..
