Adam Rehmeier’s THE BUNNY GAME has carved out a little name in notoriety for itself in the past year; back in October, it generated headlines because the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) banned it in the UK thanks to the movie’s excessive scenes of “unremitting sexual and physical abuse of a helpless woman.” The film has since received distribution deals in several European territories, but we here in the U.S. have been left wondering when – if ever – we’d get to judge the flick for ourselves.
According to Screen Daily, it won’t be long now. Newly-formed Autonomy Pictures, which is comprised of distribution veterans Derek Curl, David Gregory and Lewis Tice, will release the torture porn this summer. And lest you think it’s a cheap-shot calling the flick torture porn, you should note that Curl labels the film as such within the following quote…
“The Bunny Game is the last word on the torture-porn sub-genre. I was shocked by its audacity and the raw honesty that it depicted, making me question our collective enjoyment of extreme violence in cinema.
“At Autonomy Pictures we are not afraid to release such a film, which will undoubtedly inspire heated reaction, because it will allow audiences to make up their own minds.”
