Paranormal Activity 4 confirmed; will come out this year

Let’s have a belated New Year’s toast to the least surprising news we’re going to receive all year: PARANORMAL ACTIVITY 4 is go. Shocker, I know.

A fourth entry in the hit series was always a no-brainer, especially after the third entry, released in October, made $202 million worldwide. The previous two made $190 million and $170 million worldwide. When weighed against budgets of less than $5 million, that’s a recipe for success.

The news of a fourth entry was made official in a press release issued by Paramount Pictures yesterday. Boasting about its impressive 2011 box office haul (over $5 billion worldwide), the studio revealed its 2012 plans, and “a new chapter in the ‘Paranormal Activity’ franchise” is among them.

Paramount was tight-lipped on details when the first two PARANORMAL sequels were in development, so I’m positive we won’t find out more about PA4 anytime soon. And though it hasn’t been officially given a release date, I’m guessing you can circle OCTOBER 19th on your calendar. After all, Paramount is not about to fix what isn’t broken.
