Back in June it became known the great Danny Elfman had been readying to add THE HUNGER GAMES to his impressive resume. But after his plate continued to fill up with as equally high profile gigs – some with old friends – it seems he no longer has time to create sounds for Gary Ross’ tentpole adaptation.
In his stead, word is James Newton Howard (above) will give the musical cues on the score for THE HUNGER GAMES. Howard has over 130 credits dating back to 1985, including FLATLINERS, FALLING DOWN, THE FUGITIVE, THE SIXTH SENSE and many, many more. As you can see, the dude is more than capable of stepping in and creating something as memorable – however unique – as Elfman. And of course, with at least two more movies to follow suit, it’s a pretty good gig for Howard.

Suzanne Collins’ best-selling novel, the first in a trilogy published by Scholastic that has over 16 million copies in print in the United States alone, has developed a massive global following.
