Here’s a movie I practically forgot about: HANSEL & GRETEL WITCH HUNTERS, the Tommy Wirkola-directed action-fantasy starring Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton. It comes out in early March, and yet we’ve barely seen any promo material from it… Thankfully, that changes today, as Entertainment Weekly has premiered the first look at the two titular characters, as you can see above.
In addition to the photo, EW has an interview with Arterton, in which she spills a few details about the tone of the film, as well as how the story picks up after the folktale we all know so well.
“You see a series of flashbacks with their experience of killing that first witch, which is brilliant. I remember being on set for the final few days of that. The candy house, and the witches are really repulsive and quite frightening. The make-up is out of this world. It’s this bone-chilling scene. Very dark.”
She goes on to say that the film is “bloodthirsty and there’s a lot of cursing. It’s kind of got a [Quentin] Tarantino feel, really.”
Sounds like it has potential. Also starring Famke Janssen, Peter Stormare, Zoe Bell and Derek Mears, HANSEL & GRETEL WITCH HUNTERS opens on MARCH 2nd.
