AMC announced today the renewal of “The Walking Dead” for a third season. No shocker there, as the show’s first two episodes have pulled in an enormous number of viewers for the channel.
“Today we are pleased to announce that the ‘dead’ shall live as we proudly renew ‘The Walking Dead’ for a third season on AMC and, globally, with our terrific partners at Fox International Channels,” said Charlie Collier, AMC’s President. “We are thankful for everyone’s contribution in front of and behind the camera as we continue to make ‘The Walking Dead’ a unique television experience. And, we are so proud as it continues to set viewership records around the world.”
No word on the length of season three, although you probably wouldn’t be wrong to assume that it will contain the same amount of episodes as the current season: thirteen. This season is being split in two halves; the final episode of the first half airs on November 13th, then the show is on hiatus until February 12th.
The second season premiere last week brought in an outstanding 7.3 million total viewers, shattering a basic cable record.
