According to Variety, indie production company Kerry, Kimmel and Pollack and Eric Thompson’s Vigilante Entertainment has acquired feature film and TV rights to Gregg Olsen’s young adult series, EMPTY COFFIN. That’s right, another young adult series I’ve never heard of!
To be fair, this one sounds like it has potential, eschewing Twilight-style melodrama for spooky fun.
Here’s the description of the book series’ first novel, “Envy”:
Crime lives–and dies–in the deceptively picture-perfect town of Port Gamble (aka “Empty Coffin”), Washington. Evil lurks and strange things happen–and 15-year-olds Hayley and Taylor Ryan secretly use their wits and their telepathic “twin-sense” to uncover the truth about the town’s victims and culprits.
Envy, the series debut, involves the mysterious death of the twins’ old friend, Katelyn. Was it murder? Suicide? An accident? Hayley and Taylor are determined to find out–and as they investigate, they stumble upon a dark truth that is far more disturbing than they ever could have imagined.
Producer Eric Thompson had this to say: “The material is sharp, funny and eerie… It’s edgy with protagonists who are modern day teen sleuths with a big family secret.”
We’ll keep you in the loop on EMPTY COFFIN as it moves forward; production is expected to start next year.
