How’s this for an all-star creative team: Jon Favreau (IRON MAN), Seth Green (co-creator of “Robot Chicken”), Michael Doherty (co-writer of X2/SUPERMAN RETURNS and director of TRICK ‘R TREAT) and Alex Kurtzman & Roberto Orci (writers of the TRANSFORMERS and STAR TREK films). Heavy firepower right there, no? This quintet has just sold “Ex-Comm” – a “sci-fi drama with humor” – to ABC. A pilot commitment was given, which Favreau will direct.
Apparently, the show will be a “presidential procedural” and a cross between the paranormal suspense of “The X-Files” and the political intrigue of “The West Wing”. It follows a newly-elected President and his top secret “Executive Committee” (a.k.a. Ex-Comm), the government’s covert team of America’s most elite minds who investigate and protect our nation from the strangest occurrences and “conspiracy theory truths” out there.
The project springs from the minds of Green and Doherty, who then took it to Orci and Alex Kurtzman’s company. As Orci and Kurtzman co-wrote Favreau’s COWBOYS AND ALIENS, the director heard about “Ex-Comm” from them and jumped aboard.
No word on when this thing will get going, but chances are its debut is being targeted for late 2012.
