Three high-profile Spanish production companies are joining forces to adapt FIN (or END), which is based on the novel by David Monteagudo. The film, about old friends reuniting after years apart who are suddenly thrust into a dire situation, will shoot for two months on locations in the Madrid and Valencia regions.
Mod Producciones (the Oscar-nominated BIUTIFUL), Apaches Entertainment (the upcoming Clive Owen thriller INTRUDERS) and Antena 3 Films (the Guillermo del Toro-produced JULIA’S EYES) are the companies collaborating on the picture, which will be directed by Jorge Torregrossa, who works predominantly in Spanish television. The screenplay was penned by a couple of notable names: Jorge Guerricaechevarría (writer of the highly-acclaimed CELL 211) and Sergio G. Sanchez (THE ORPHANAGE).
Here’s the book’s synopsis (via rough Spanish-English translation): A group of old friends who have nothing in common, except a murky episode in the past, meet at a mountain retreat for a weekend pass. The meeting closely follows the usual script of these cases, but in full celebration, an external event completely alters their plans. Under increasing pressure, each individual will interpret events according to their particular obsessions – all under the shadow of a threat increasingly close and palpable.
The film stars Maribel Verdu (PAN’S LABYRINTH), Clara Lago, Blanca Romero, Daniel Grao, Carmen Ruiz and Miquel Fernandez. A 2012 release is being eyed; we’ll keep you in the loop!
