The last we heard on Joseph Kosinski’s HORIZONS (aka OBLIVION) was back in June, when the flick had scored itself a July 19, 2013 release date. Now as of that time the only cast announced was the movie’s star – Tom Cruise. And that’s it! Hell we’ve been talking about this thing for over a year and it’s still only got one cast member. But it seems that’s about to change!
Variety’s Showblitz is claiming that not one, not two, but five A-list hotties are all testing to star alongside Cruise in the epic sci-fi adventure. Who are the lovely ladies? Jessica Chastain, Olivia Wilde, Brit Marling (right), Noomi Rapace and Olga Kurylenko. How would you like to be the object of that group’s affection? Oh yeah!
HORIZONS (OBLIVION) centers on a battle-damaged soldier who, assigned to a desolate planet after a court-martial, patrols the bleak landscape in an effort to destroy the last vestiges of a primitive alien race. When a mysterious traveler arrives unexpectedly, their lives become inextricably linked as they are forced to question everything they know about this world and themselves.
Cruise will play the soldier who’s stuck alone on the planet, repairing the drones that patrol and destroy a savage alien life form. He encounters a beautiful woman who crashes in a craft, and their experience together forces him to question his world view.
While there doesn’t seem to be a front-runner for the role, one would wager a guess that Olivia Wilde probably has the best shot at this one, considering she just appeared in Joe Kosinski’s TRON: LEGACY. Then again with a group like this it really could go either way.
Auditions for HORIZONS’ leading lady are set to take place today so hopefully news breaks sometime this week on who won the apprently coveted role.
