The crime thriller/horror movie mash-up KILL LIST has been generating a ton of positive buzz in – thanks mostly to its much-talked about premiere at SXSW earlier this year – and placed a “next big thing” tag on its director, Ben Wheatley. While only his second feature film (his first was the violent dark comedy DOWN TERRACE), its apparently impressive enough to gain the British helmer no less than three potentially-cool projects in the pipeline, which Wheatley talked about at the recent Empire Big Screen event in London.
Most interesting among these upcoming flicks is SIGHTSEERS, which will be produced by Edgar Wright and the production company behind SHAUN OF THE DEAD and ATTACK THE BLOCK. While details on the story are thin, we know that it’s based on a twistedly comedic short film of the same name about a pair of psychotic caravaners. The script was penned by British comedians Alice Lowe and Steve Oram, who will also star. Production commences in six weeks.
Wheatley is also working on another dark comedy set to star Nick Frost called I, MACROMAN about two guys who knew each other as juvenile delinquents and are reunited in their thirties who subsequently go on a rampage. He’s also directing a sci-fi film set in America, but there’s nothing known about the plot just yet.
Furthermore, Wheatley is one of 25 directors participating in THE ABC’S OF DEATH… Whew!
Meanwhile, KILL LIST hits cinemas in the U.K. on SEPTEMBER 2nd, and will be released in the U.S. via IFC at some point in the near future.
