So it was only yesterday we told you that Joe Carnahan’s killer wolf flick THE GREY had been the subject of a torrid bidding war. Well, looks like Open Road came out of the pack with the flick in tow…

According to Deadline, Open Road has indeed landed U.S. rights to THE GREY, though no release dates have yet been set. Word is they paid a hefty fee for the rights, basically banking on Liam Neeson’s newfound box-office credibility. The Irishman headlines a fine cast in a flick that follows a group of roughnecks left stranded by a plane crash right in the hunting zone of a pack of rogue wolves on the frozen Alaskan tundra.

While no dates have been slated, part of the deal included a release this year, on as many as 4,000 screens. Given the frigid setting in the film, it makes sense to release it sometime in the winter.

Co-written with Carnahan by Ian Mackenzie Jeffers – THE GREY also Dallas Roberts, James Badge Dale, Dermot Mulroney, Frank Grillo, Nonso Anozie and Joe Anderson.
