The rumor mill is abuzz that Lionsgate is currently fielding pitches for CUBE 3D. Whether the film is a sequel or reboot/remake remains unknown, but one has to assume the latter.
1997’s CUBE was the feature debut of writer/director Vincenzo Natali (SPLICE). It spawned a direct-to-DVD sequel, 2002’s CUBE 2: HYPERCUBE, and prequel, 2004’s CUBE ZERO. Here is the premise:
Seven complete strangers of widely varying personality characteristics are involuntarily placed in an endless Kafkaesque maze containing deadly traps.
The original film impressed viewers with its engaging premise requiring only one set and some clever traps. Many people noticed similarities between it and the SAW series. If you’re unfamiliar with the thriller, I recommend checking it out before the inevitable remake comes along. You can pick up a DVD HERE.
