Producer/author/filmmaker Charles E. Sellier Jr. was found dead in his home in Idaho on Monday. He was 67. His family declined to specify the cause of the death.
Sellier is perhaps best known to the general public for creating “The Life and Times of Grizzly Adams,” but genre fans will recognize him for directing one of horror’s most controversial films: SILENT NIGHT, DEADLY NIGHT. The Christmas-themed slasher caused quite a stir in 1984 for showing a man dressed as Santa killing people in its advertisements.
Orson Welles once called Sellier “light years ahead of the rest of the industry.” Our hearts go out to his family and friends. May he rest in peace.
