Now let me start this article by saying I’m not a big fan of musicals. And in that same sense I’m not a huge fan of the novel/stageplay WICKED. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve heard amazing things about WICKED but it’s just not my cup of tea, you know? But alas I’m sure there are some of you out there that dig the shite out of that book so here I am today to give you all a nifty little update regarding the story.

You see according to TV Line, Salma Hayek and ABC are planning on bringing WICKED to the small screen in an eight part miniseries. Now mind you this miniseries would be based on the novel WICKED: THE LIFE AND TIMES OF THE WICKED WITCH OF THE WEST and not the play. Hayek (below) would be producing alongside Jose Tamez through the duo’s Ventanarosa Productions along with ABC Studios. The actress may also play a supporting role in the series.

The novel is a political, social, and ethical commentary on the nature of good and evil and takes place in The Land of Oz, in the years leading to Dorothy’s arrival. The story centers on Elphaba, the misunderstood green-skinned girl who grows up to become the notorious Wicked Witch of the West.

So there you have it folks. I’m sure not all of you are excited about this news but there should be some of you out there stoked to hear it. We’ll keep an eye out for more updates regarding this WICKED adaptation so be sure to keep it here for that as we hear it.
