Universal’s DEATH RACE 2 (READ OUR REVIEW HERE), the direct-to-video follow-up to 2008’s DEATH RACE, hits DVD and Blu-ray in the United States on January 18th and in other territories around the same time. With the feedback surprisingly positive so far, Moviehole has learned that Universal’s home entertainment division has officially put DEATH RACE 3 into development.
No details are available this early in the game, naturally, but I’m interested to see where it fits in the timeline. The upcoming DEATH RACE 2, despite its title, is actually a prequel that takes place before the first film (itself a remake of 1975’s DEATH RACE 2000). In any event, we’ll keep you updated.
DEATH RACE 2 is directed by Roel Reine, written by Tony Giglio, and stars Luke Goss, Ving Rhames, Danny Trejo, Sean Bean, Lauren Cohan, Tanit Phoenix (below), and Frederick Koehler. Here’s the low-down:
The prequel serves as the origin story for the character named Frankenstein, a convicted cop killer in a declining American Empire where a racing reality show is about to be born in the country’s corrupt prison system.
